Retire or delete data you have loaded
You can load sample assets or trial data, then take them out of your account later. This page names the four ways to do that. Archive is the one most accounts want.
Archive an asset
Section titled “Archive an asset”Archiving is how you retire an asset. It is reversible, it keeps the asset’s history, and it is the only one of these actions with a control in the web app.
To archive an asset:
- Open the asset page in the web app.
- Open the status dropdown beside the asset name. It reads Tracked.
- Select Archived.
- Read the confirmation message, then select Change status.
An archived asset changes in these ways:
- Nightly M&V and meter fetches stop at once.
- The asset leaves the asset list that the app opens on. The list filters to healthy assets, and an archived asset is not one.
- Aristotle leaves the asset out of every portfolio figure. Ask Aristotle to include archived assets, and it counts them again.
- Aristotle and WEATS stay active until the end of the current month, and they bill until then. If neither feature is on, archiving costs nothing.
- The asset’s measurement history is kept in full.
To find an archived asset again, open the asset list and set the Status filter to Archived. The list opens on Healthy, so an archived asset is not in the first view.
To bring the asset back, open its status dropdown and select Tracked. Measurement starts again that night.
The API does the same thing. Send a setStatus operation to
PATCH /accounts/{account_id}/assets.
Remove a methodology from an asset
Section titled “Remove a methodology from an asset”An asset can carry more than one methodology. One of them is the primary methodology, marked with a star. The asset’s scores and savings come from that one alone. The other methodologies are measured and reported on their own, and their figures are never added to the primary’s.
To remove a methodology:
- Open the asset page, then select Configure.
- Go to the Methodologies section.
- Select the trash-can icon on the methodology you want to remove.
- Read the Delete methodology? message, then select Delete.
The API endpoint is
DELETE /accounts/{account_id}/assets/{asset_id}/methodologies/{ordinal}.
You cannot remove the primary methodology while the asset carries another one. The app refuses, and the API answers 409. To remove it, select the star on a different methodology first. That one then supplies the asset’s headline numbers.
Delete an asset permanently
Section titled “Delete an asset permanently”Deletion is permanent, and the web app has no control for it. Use the API:
DELETE /accounts/{account_id}/assets/{asset_id}The endpoint answers 202 and a background worker does the work. The worker deletes the asset, its versions, its jobs, and its measurement data. The meters that fed the asset are kept, so you can attach them to a new asset.
CAUTION: Deletion cannot be undone. If you want the asset’s history, archive the asset instead.
An asset that has ever produced EACs cannot be deleted. The request answers 400. The record of that asset is what holds the attributes behind those certificates.
Delete a manual meter
Section titled “Delete a manual meter”DELETE /accounts/{account_id}/meters/{meter_id}The endpoint answers 204. It deletes the meter, its timeseries data, and its jobs. It also takes the meter out of every asset’s meter pool and out of every methodology that names it.
Two conditions block the request, and each answers 400:
- The meter is not a manual meter. Only a meter with
api_providerset tomanualcan be deleted. A meter that a data provider fills is removed by disconnecting that provider. - The meter is attached to an asset that has registered EACs.
