Share your account with a colleague or adviser

More than one person can work in the same WattCarbon account. Your colleagues, and an outside adviser who works on your projects, do not need accounts of their own. Invite them into yours instead. They keep their own sign-in, and they see your assets, your meters, and your EACs.

You do not need WattCarbon to do this. An organization account manages its own members.

You must hold the Admin role in that account. An Admin can give the Admin role to a colleague, so an account can have more than one. The account must be an organization account. An individual account has no members to add, so the API answers 422.

  1. Select Account settings in the sidebar.
  2. Find the Members section.
  3. Select Invite a colleague.
  4. Enter the email address of the person.
  5. Select a role. The modal lists what that role can do.
  6. Select Send invite.
Role What the person can do
Viewer Read assets and EACs.
Editor Read and change assets and EACs.
Admin Everything an Editor can do, and read billing, and manage members.

You cannot grant a power that you do not hold yourself.

The person gets an email that names you and the organization, and carries a link to the invitation. The invitation is open for seven days. After that it expires, and you must send a new one.

The person opens the link, signs in, then accepts or declines the invitation. Sign-in is a magic link to the invited address, so the invitation works only for the mailbox you sent it to. A forwarded link fails.

An account holds one open invitation per address. If you invite an address that is already a member, or that already holds an open invitation, the API answers 409.

POST /accounts/{account_id}/invitations

Send the email address and the scopes for the role. The endpoint answers 201 with the invitation, including its expiry.

To see the invitations you have sent, call GET /accounts/{account_id}/invitations. To withdraw one before the person accepts it, call DELETE /accounts/{account_id}/invitations/{invitation_id}.
